Children can be emotionally impacted by divorce

The dissolution of a marriage in Florida can understandably be tumultuous from a financial standpoint. However, the emotional consequences of divorce can be just as damaging, if not worse. This goes for both the adults getting divorced and the children who have to experience it with them.

During divorce, people can easily make rash decisions out of anger and frustration. For instance, perhaps they want to get back at the other spouse by purposely trying to harm the other party financially. In many situations, they also use the children as tools to get the other party to agree to their demands.

However, when parents do this during divorce, they are not looking at the repercussions of their actions down the road. When the children of divorce grow up and start to investigate the parents' split-up by looking through public court records, for example, they often find out what really happened during their parents' divorce. Unfortunately, the truth is not always pretty.

If parents in Florida who are getting divorced can work together through divorce mediation or negotiations, they can avoid the acrimony and lack of privacy that come with going through traditional divorce litigation. The children may benefit from this, as the divorce process is much smoother overall, which can help them to adjust to life after divorce more easily. An attorney can help with mediation and negotiations with the goal of making sure that one's wishes and the children's best interests are upheld during all stages of the divorce proceeding.
